FENWAY HOSPITAL EXECUTIVE HELD HIS OWN SEXUAL TALK FOR A MONTH

When Dan Dierdorf took over as Fenway Health executive director, the city of Boston had no such restrictions.
In fact, Dierf had been involved in one of the first gay marriages to be approved in the United States.
Dierdinoff was the first openly gay executive to take the reins at the state’s largest hospital, which has a gay patient population of more than 200,000 and a lesbian patient population at 1,000.
Now he’s the latest executive to find himself at the center of a scandal that threatens to derail a major policy initiative.
As Dierdenf’s troubles mounted, other executives were being investigated for sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and inappropriate behavior.
Now Dierdorff is facing charges that he sexually harassed an employee at his clinic, a report released Wednesday shows.
The Globe’s Julie DiRienzo first reported on the investigation in February, citing anonymous sources.
On Wednesday, the Globe published a second report that said Dierderff may have sexually harassed at least five other employees.
The first report focused on sexual harassment allegations from two female employees who say Dierdrff told them he wanted them to have sex with him.
The second report, by the state inspector general, said Dernofson “improperly pressured” two female doctors and managers to have sexual relations with him, according to a copy of the investigation obtained by the Globe.
Dernfson denied the allegations in a statement released Wednesday.
Diersdorf did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
But he told the Globe that Dierdnons claims of harassment were “completely untrue.”
Dierdfors actions were not justified because he was not a public figure, he said, adding that he was a private citizen who had the right to be free of unwanted sexual advances.
He also said he was “absolutely” the victim of a smear campaign, including accusations he was having an affair with his longtime girlfriend, according, in part, to a woman who said she had met Dierdiks at a Boston bar.
Dyerdorf, who is married, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Globe on Wednesday.
The Boston Globe and Associated Press did not independently verify the reports and found no evidence to support the claims.
In an interview with the Globe, Dyerdorff acknowledged that the woman had “taken advantage of a situation” to “get ahead of me and get ahead of the organization.”
Dyerfson said he “never meant for her to be hurt, that was never my intention.”
But he said he does not remember any of the encounters.
Dyrdderfson has been under fire since he took the reins of the hospital in July after the previous hospital chief resigned amid sexual harassment claims.
He has defended his actions and said he is committed to the “greater good” of the entire Boston community.
Dermontson has come under fire for his past work as a lobbyist for the gay rights group Equality Massachusetts, which had sought to ban the city from adopting a nondiscrimination ordinance for gay residents.
DERDORFF’S RECORD While Dierrichs tenure as Fenwhurst’s CEO lasted a month, he also had several years of leadership experience.
The company, which operates in four cities, is among the largest in the U.S. He was chief executive officer of the Boston Red Sox from 1995 to 2007, overseeing the team’s development, construction and merchandising.
His first big job was managing the Boston Zoo and its animals, a job he held for five years.
Dderrichs most recent job at Fenway was managing operations at the University of Massachusetts Boston Medical Center, which is also the home of the medical center.
In a statement, the university said it was aware of the allegations and was “committed to working with the police to identify and prosecute those responsible for this matter.”
“We are cooperating fully with the investigation and are committed to maintaining the high standards of conduct that we hold ourselves to,” the statement said.
Boston’s health department, meanwhile, said it has launched an internal investigation.
“The Boston Health Department is cooperating fully and fully with an investigation into an allegation that an employee engaged in inappropriate conduct with another employee, including an allegation of sexual harassment,” the agency said in a written statement.
The university is in the process of “reviewing” the matter, the statement continued.
The investigation into Dierdonfson’s behavior began last summer, when the Globe first reported the allegations against Dierdoins employee.
That employee said Diersdorff made a sexual advance toward her when they were at a bar in Boston in 2014.
In his statement Wednesday, Diersdonf said he denies the allegations, and that he has been working with an outside law firm to find out more about the case.
He said he had no further comment on the matter.
