New data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveals that coronavillosis (CVD) is on the rise in the United States, and it has reached new heights in the last year.
The CDC has released a new report titled “US-CVD Surveillance, 2013-2019: An Update,” which shows that the rate of coronavovirus infection has increased in the US since the start of this year.
In the last five years, the rate has been on a steady upward trajectory.
The report also showed that the US was the only country in the world with more deaths from coronavids than deaths from any other infectious disease.
In a statement, CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden said, “We know that our efforts are working, but we need to continue them to reach our goal of preventing CVD.”
“Our data show that our strategy to contain CVD is working,” Frieden continued.
“The number of Americans with COVID-19 has fallen by almost 50 percent in the past five years.”
The CDC report also found that coronivirus infections are rising in rural areas, which are home to a lot of people with compromised immune systems.
“This report highlights the urgent need to keep people in their homes, in their communities, and out of hospitals, where COVID is most likely to spread,” Friedens said.
“Our work is critical to preventing and treating CVD in this critical time.”
“The increase in COVID infections is troubling and underscores the need for greater collaboration among public health, private sector, and state and local partners,” said Dr. John W. Schaffner, director of the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion at the Centers of Disease Control.
“We have an epidemic on the horizon and we are all working together to protect people from infection and keep them safe.”
Frieden said that the CDC is looking at ways to make healthcare providers more aware of the coroniviral risks, including through new measures to monitor the virus and provide education on the virus to the general public.
The CDC also said it is working with states and private sector partners to help address the pandemic and to make COVID vaccines more accessible.
